Postgraduate Training

The McDevitt laboratory has several postgraduate projects for higher degree by research students who meet the following criteria.

Selection Criteria

  • Have a 1st Class Honours or MSc degree and an excellent undergraduate academic record in any of the following areas: molecular microbiology, bacteriology, microbial bioinformatics, biochemistry, chemistry, genetics, or structural biology.

  • Have an interest in studying bacterial pathogens, the role of metal ions in host-pathogen interaction, or aspects of chemical biology and biophysical chemistry of infectious diseases.

  • Are highly motivated and capable of both independent and collaborative research.

  • Meet the English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements for the University of Melbourne.

  • For Australian/NZ citizens and permanent Australian residents an application for an Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship will be essential*.

  • For International Students, a postgraduate research scholarship will be essential. This award may cover a stipend or living allowance, and in some cases may include a tuition fee offset.

  • Prospective students are required to contact the scholarship office at their respective university for further direction on postgraduate research scholarships, and application deadlines.

*The RTP scholarship consists of both the RTP Fees Offset for tuition fees, and the RTP Stipend for living costs to support recipients. For more information, see the Australian Department of Education website.
